“The multiplication of public offices, increase of expense beyond income, growth and entailment of a public debt, are indications soliciting the employment of the pruning knife.”
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Spencer Roane, March 9, 1821
Does this apply today? If so, what is the “Pruning Knife” and how would it be “employed” without violent consequences as the quote lends easy imagery to assume?

“To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”
-Thomas Jefferson
Mr. Jefferson was quite a man!
I think that I may expound my thoughts on this in a later post, look for that in the future.
